The Village of Forsbrook which is set on the edge of the Staffordshire
Moorlands has been fighting hard for a safe place for both its local
residence and visitors of the Village to cross the now very busy
road for over 20 years. The Local Parish Council have themselves
been fighting hard, and still are doing so to ensure that we get
the urgently needed facility before the tragedy happens, of one
of our loved ones being slain trying to cross the road in the Village.
All our concerns about the dangers of this road have fell on deaf
hears both by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and Staffordshire
County Council and the latest ones to ignore our pleas was The Goverment.
Last year we got a E-Petition signed by over 200 people and the
Goverment basically said that The decision as to whether to install
a pedestrian crossing in the village of Forsbrook is a matter for
the local highway authority, in this case Staffordshire County Council.
One email relpy from a councillor of Staffordshire County Council
read "The costs involved are too high to justify spending over
£100,000. Fatalities on Cheadle Road are nil! In our area
the roundabout on the A50 is the worst hot spot for RTA in Staffs.
Moorlands."
So, as it reads, someone has got to be killed to
justify spending our monies on a safe place for us to cross. By
the way, Blythe Bridge, Tean have crossings and have the same amount
of vehicular traffic that pass through their roads as ours and Cheadle
have got vast amount of crossings there.
Something also needs to be done about the illegal
parking in Forsbrook where the most serious offenders of this are
the delivery vehicles of the The Spar, namely Spar themselves and
Hammersley's bakery who force pedestrians to walk in the road as
they pull straight upon the pavement. The driver of Hamersleys was
once asked to move his vehicle off the pavement so that pedesrians
could walk on it and his attitude was that, he has to park somewhere
to make his deliveries bearing in mind that there is nearly always
plenty of room for him to park his small van. There is ample room
at the side of the Spar for them to unload safley but instead they
allow others to park there instead!!!
Let's see if these new Parking Attendants can sort
this out, but up to yet have not, as did not the Police.
Staffordshire Moorlands Council are now about to
spend £470,000 of OUR monies upgrading the CCTV system to
digital which as yet not caught a single act of crime in Forsbrook
Village and also they are to spend £69,000 to improve the
appearance of Public Toilets across the area. £35,000 to double
the role of town centre co-ordinators in helping to regenerate Biddulph,
Cheadle and Leek, £100,000 into waste collection to increase
recycling facilities. Surely money spent on saving peoples lives
is a far more prority than these items of
their agenda!!! But as the local community website says we are "The
Forgotten Village of Staffordshire Moorlands." And it
just proves it with were the above £35,000 is to be spent!!!
